This route starts from Tegea and more particularly from the square of Rizes and it leads to the church of Prophet Elias which is located on a hill. It is a beautiful walk through the pine forest and it is about 10 km long. It takes about one to one hour and a half to walk down this route.
This route is approximately 80 km long. It starts from Tripoli and it leads to Astros in Kynouria. It takes about four hours to cover this distance. On the way you can enjoy the wonderful landscape as you walk through the most beautiful villages in Kynouria.
c) Route Alpine Club of Mainalos / Α1 DH Trail
This route starts from the shelter of the Alpine Club of Mainalos and it leads to the northeastern side of the mountain. It is a very demanding route. It is 6 km long and it is characterized by the unique natural beauty of the mountain.
This route starts from the Mainalos Ski Resort and leads to the village of Levidi. It is a marked route and it is about 9 km long. It takes about one hour to walk this distance.
e) Route Rouchi – Vitina / Α4 DH Trail
This route starts from the plateau of Rouchi and it takes us to the village of Vitina. It is about 4 km long and it is a relatively short but quite demanding route that goes through a wonderful fir forest.
f) Route Path Α2 – Vitina – Palteau Rouchi
This route starts from Path A2, it passes through the plateau of Kapeli and the village of Vitina and it leads to the plateau of Rouchi. The total length of this difficult route is 17 km and it takes about two hours to walk this distance.
THE TRAILS OF PARNON
Hiking / Trekking
1) Vamvakos – Shelter of Parnon – Megali Tourla – Monastery of Malevi
This marked trail starts from Vamvakos at an altitude of 960 metres and it leads to the alpine shelter of Parnon at an altitude of 1,450 metres. Then on, it continues towards the top of Megali Tourla, which is the highest peak of Parnon (at an altitude of 1,935 metres) and it continues through the forest road. This road leads to the plateau of Kambos that takes us to the top. We pass by the small church of Ai-Lia and then, we continue to the northwest reaching the Monastery of Malevi, which is situated next to the village of Saint Petros. The total length of this route is 10 km and it takes about four hours to walk this distance.
2) Tsintzina – Monastery of the Holy Unmercenaries
This route starts from the village of Tsintzina, which is situated on the slopes of Mount Parnon at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Then on, we walk down the marked trail that is approximately 5 km long and we reach the Monastery of the Holy Unmercenaries.
3) Tsintzina – Meganailias – Rachi Psari
This route starts from Tsintzina, which is located at an altitude of 1,000 metres. If we follow the marks (the red triangles), we shall continue walking down the trail that will take us to the church of Prophet Elias. Then on, we continue south towards Meganailias, which is the second tallest peak on the south side of Mount Parnon at an altitude of 1,780 metres. We continue northeast towards Rachi Psari, which is the tallest peak on the south side of Parnon at an altitude of 1,839 metres. The total length of this route is about 11 km and it takes about four hours to walk this distance.
Alfeios River and its tributary, Lucius, can offer some impressive routes for rafting in the Peloponnese.
1) Ano Lucius
The route of Ano Lucius is considered to be quite difficult and it is suited mostly to experienced athletes. It would be good for those who do not have the necessary experience to have an experienced guide with them mostly when the river has a lot of water and it becomes particularly forceful.
A tributary of Alfeios River, Erymanthos, which is the natural border between the prefectures of Elis and Arcadia, is ideal for rafting. It is a quite difficult descent, which requires a lot of experience. This route takes from 5 to 7 hours. In Erymanthos there are two routes. The first one starts from the village of Tripotama and leads to the village of Vidiaki (15 km long) and the second one starts from the village of Vidiaki and leads to Elea (8 km long). Lucius River and its tributaries are ideal not only for rafting but also for many other activities.
SKI RESORT OF MAINALO - ARCADIA
The ski resort of Mainalos opened in 1965 at Ostrakina. It is situated 30 km away from Tripoli and about 160 km away from Athens. It is easy to go there and this is the reason why it is a particularly popular destination for those who love skiing. It has seven ski pistes of different levels, which are equipped with three platter lifts. In the summer various other activities are organized such as hiking, alpine cycling and parachuting.
