The Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil is situated in Sparta and it is housed in the building of the old electrical company. Its goal is to highlight the long history and the significance of the olive and the olive oil through an array of exhibits. In this museum one can learn about traditional technologies used in the production of olive oil. The Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil is the first of its kind in Greece.

Historical and Ethnological Museum of Mani (Gythio)
The town of Gythio and more particularly Tzanetakis’ Tower, a building which dates back to 1829, houses the Historical and Ethnological Museum of Mani. Significant historic artefacts of the area are on display and they date from the Renaissance to the 19th century A.D. Through this rich exhibition the visitor can see the historical evolution of Mani. For more information contact: (0030) 27330 22676 Diros Neolithic Museum (Diros) The Diros Neolithic Museum was built in 1875 and it is housed in a neoclassical building at the entrance of the prehistoric cave of Alepotrypa. During the Paleolithic and Neolithic period this cave served as a shelter, a cemetery and a worship site. The findings that are on display date from the mycenaean era (1600-1100 B.C.) to the roman times (9700-480 B.C.).

Museum of Ecclesiastic Art (Sparta)
The Museum of Ecclesiastic Art is housed on the second floor of the Holy Metropolis of Monemvasia and Sparta. Numerous great works of ecclesiastic art dating back to the mid 15th century are on display. Characteristic exhibits are icons of Russian style dating from the 17th to 19th century, as well as valuable collections that include various sanctuary implements and holy vestments.

Botanical and Geological Museum of Mount Taygetos (Anavriti)
The Botanical and Geological Museum of Mount Taygetos, which is housed in two classrooms of the old school in Anavriti, has numerous photographs of rare species of plants, as well as a rich collection of rocks and fossils of Mount Tagetos.

The Museum of Pikoulaki Tower is located in Areopoli and it is housed in a historic tower. It hosts a permanent exhibition with numerous exhibits relating to traditional life in Mani.

Tomb of Leonidas – Archaeological Site Leonideon (Sparta)
The most significant monument in contemporary Sparta is the tomb of Leonidas, which is located to the north of the city. This tomb was discovered after excavations that took place in 1892 and it became known as Leonideon. It is an ancient building which looks like a temple and it dates back to approximately the 5th century B.C. The building is 12.5 x 8.30 m. and it has been constructed using only large tufa.
