Welcome to Diakopto...

“Diakopto” (or “Diakofto”) is a seaside town in Northeast Achaea and it is located at a distance of 160Km from Athens. Its Northern borders with the Corinthian Gulf and to the South and Southeast, with the Old and the New National Road Athens-Patras. The seaside little Church of Saint Nicholas, the picturesque harbour and the beautiful natural landscape of the region in combination with the wide range of activities offered, leave no visitor untouched. During the summer you can enjoy refreshing moments by swimming in 2 of the most beautiful beaches of the region, the “Egkalis” and the “Eleon” (olive grove) beach.


In the past…

In official records of the State, since its Foundation (1830) Diakofto was originally named as “Boura”, which according to the Royal Decree of 8 April 1835 was the seat of the municipality of Boura, in the “Aigeialia’s” province. At that time the population was approximately 1442 inhabitants. Today it is the seat of the municipality of Diakopto, which was established in 1999 with the “Kapodistrias” law.



The unique beaches of the region, with sandy and crystal clear waters, are familiar characteristics to those visiting Diakofto. Traditional taverns and seaside cafes overlooking the mountain and the county of “Sterea Ellada”, offer the ideal combination for promenades along the sea. Hiking in the gorge of Bouraikos along the river and alongside the lines of the “odontotos” (notched) railroad, one of the most beautiful landscapes of this country is something that certainly should not be missed. Two kilometres next to Diakofto opposite to the village “Zachloritika”, you can go through the foothills of the mountain “Marathias”, and get to the “cave of Hercules ". Ultimately anyone who wants to be cured from the bustle of the city and enjoy the beauties of nature can find in Diakopto a perfect destination.

  • the magnificient railway, which passes next to the Gorge of Boyrraikoy and reaches up to the city of “Kalavrita”

  • the tunnels, waterfalls and caves in the surrounding area of the ancient city of “Eliki”, “Bouras” (now Castle Diakoptoy) and “Kyrenia”

  • the “Vouraikos” gorge

  • the beautiful beaches “Egkalis” and “Eleon”

How to go

By Car:

Diakopto is located at a distance of 160 km from Athens. Once you get on Attiki Odos towards Elefsina, continue your trip on the National Highway Athens-Corinth for approximately 80 km (50-60 minutes journey). After leaving Corinth behind, continue your trip with direction to Patras following the relevant road signs. Continue your journey on the highway for about 80 kilometres (approx. 50-55 minutes) and finally take the exit (attention to road signs) which will lead you to the city of Diakopto.


Total travel time :  100-120 minutes


By Bus:

There are daily itineraries from Athens to Diakopto. The departure point is at the main bus station of Athens. (KTEL Busses Kifisos - Kifissou 100, on the national road of Athens).
