General info

Welcome to Vytina…

Βuilt at the foot of Mount Mainalo, at an altitude of 1040m, in a verdurous area and located 44 kilometers away from Tripoli and 185 km away from Athens, Vitina is undoubtedly one of the most famous and remarkable destinations in mountainous Arcadia, attracting tourists throughout the year thanks to its ideal climate and its unique geographical location. The dense forest creates impressive scenery along with the running spring waters, the picturesque streets with their traditional stone houses and the lush gardens. The whole area is full of delights and surprises for visitors.

In the past…

This is a historic village with a long tradition. The village was founded in 350 AD at a little higher level than where it is today. During the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Vitina there was created a kind of military care, since the ovens of the village provided the revolutionary army with bread. Many chieftains and great fighters of the Revolution came from this region. Because of its assistance and participation in the struggle, Vytina was burned seven times by the army of Ibrahim, which caused severe damage to it. After the Revolution, the village prospered. Besides, it had also a shopping center and contributed to a great extent to the economic development of the region.

Nowadays…

Vytina is an attraction in itself, with its stone houses, the way of love and walks in nature. The church of St. Tryphon, a remarkable example of local architecture, is located in the city center. Apart from the church, there is also the Town Hall and cafes round the city square, restaurants and shops with local, traditional products made with love and affection by local residents as well as shops with woodcraft, household and decorative items. What is worthy of a visit during your stay here is the Public, hosted in a historic building, the "Greek School". It has a rich collection of old and newer versions. The Folklore Museum of the City is also impressive.
In just 12 km, there lies the ski resort and shelter of Mainalo, where visitors can indulge in comfort and safety of winter sports like, climbing or hunting. Vytina is fairly the leader in tourism all over Arcadia and able to combine and offer different kinds of pleasure, depending on the season one visits it on their tastes.
